Admission Procedure & Exams

B.Tech Eligibility Criteria

For seeking admission into B Tech, aspirants should have completed 10+2 or higher secondary education with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as their core subjects. The minimum pass percentage for general category candidates is 45 percent, which further goes down to 40 percent for those belonging to SC, ST, OBC and PwD categories. Candidates who are appearing or have appeared in 10+2 final may also appear in various common entrance tests.

Selection Process

Hundreds and thousands of BTech aspirants come up with all sorts of questions regarding the admission process. Invariably starting with cracking any of the common entrance exams, the process aims at exploring the capabilities, attitude and aptitude of B Tech candidates.

Examination

Common Entrance Test

Some common entrance tests for admission into B Tech degree course include JEE Main, JEE Advanced, VITEEE, and SRMJEEE. Despite the fact that each of these tests follows their peculiar exam pattern, some sections that find mention in all of them include Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.

Here are some colleges that accept the scores of particular common entrance tests:

Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main

Several National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) across India accept the scores of JEE Main. Some prominent ones include NIT Trichy, NITK, NITW, NSIT, IIITs, NIT Rourkela, BIT Mesra, TU Patiala, MNNIT and so on.

Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced

JEE Advanced, conducted by seven zonal IITs, is the next challenge for students who succeed in finding their mention among top 1.5 lakh rank holders with JEE Main. All IITs and the Indian School of Mines (ISM) accept this particular test’s scores.

Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Exam (VITEEE)

Those desirous of getting admission to B Tech courses at VIT (Vellore Institute of Technology) do need to clear the VITEEE.

SRM Joint Engineering Entrance Exam (SRMJEEE)

SRM University has four campuses namely Ramapuram, NCR Ghaziabad, Ramapuram Vadapalani and Kattankulathur that accept SRMJEEE scores of aspirants for admission to undergraduate engineering programmes.

Counselling and College Allocation

After clearing any of the aforementioned exams, aspirants get calls for counselling sessions from different engineering colleges based on the cut-off limit decided by college authorities. During the counselling, college representatives interview aspirants about their preferred areas of specialisation and accordingly, allocate them their seats.
