AILET 2020: All You Need To Know; Registration Ends on April 15

AILET 2020 or All India Law Entrance Test is a national-level entrance examination that enables students to get admission in law courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The exam is taken by thousands of students every year to join National Law University (NLU), which is the conducting body of the examination. Institutes affiliated to NLU also accept AILET marks to admit students.

As per the official notification by NLU, the upcoming AILET exam for the year 2020 will be conducted on May 7, 2020. The application forms have been made available from Janaury 3, 2020 onwards and registrations will conclude on April 15, 2020.

AILET examination paper will be different for candidates appearing for undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD level. The examination paper will consist of multiple-choice questions for all candidates and essay type questions for postgraduate courses. The duration of examination is 90 minutes and will be in paper-based mode.

AILET 2020 Important Dates:

National Law University issues an official notification regarding the examination dates and application procedure in newspapers as well as on its official website. The official notification for the exam was released on October 6, 2020. Students can find the importnat dates below:

AILET 2020 Eligibility Criteria:

AILET 2020 will be conducted to offer admissions to students in BA LLB, LLM and PhD courses. Candidates securing 50% marks in  aggregate in 10+2 can apply for the entrance examination for BA LLB. On the other hand, LLB graduates with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks can appear for AILET for LLM course and LLM post graduates scoring at least 55% marks in aggregate can appear for AILET exam for PhD course. The minimum applicable aggregate percentage goes down to 50% for SC, ST and PWD category candidates applying for LLM or PhD course. Students in their final year of qualifying examination can also apply for AILET examination.

AILET 2020 Application Procedure:

As per the website of NLU Delhi, the application forms for AILET 2020 will be availbale from January 3, 2020. Aspiring candidates will be required to first register themselves on the official website of NLU. For this, they need to enter the desired information including their email ids and scanned photograph. Post registration, candidates will be required to go to the ‘Application Locker’ and select the application form they would like to fill-in. This procedure will be followed by payment of application fee which confirms the application.
 
All candidates should note that the sale of application forms will be concluded on April 15, 2020. Further, the application forms will be available online only.

AILET 2020 Application Fee:

In order to complete the application procedure, candidates are required to pay the application fee for AILET 2020. Candidates belonging to general category need to pay application fee of INR 3000 nad INR 1000 for SC/ST/PWD. However, SC/ST candidates living below the poverty line will be exempted from paying the application fee.
 
Application fee can be paid both online as well as offline. Online application fee can be paid using Debit card, credit card and/or net banking facilities. On the other hand, offline application fee can be paid by issuing a cash deposit slip which will be payable at the nearest post office.

AILET 2020 Exam Pattern:

Candidates will get 90 minutes to answer in the questions in AILET 2020 exam. BA LLB candidates will have to answer 150 multiple choice questions carrying one mark each. These questions will be based on English, Legal Aptitude, Reasoning, Basic Mathematics and General Knowledge. LLM candidates will be required to answer one essay type question carrying 50 marks and 100 multiple choice questions of one mark each. Candidates applying for PhD course will have to appear for Research Methodology paper comprising of 100 multiple choice questions. Additionally, they will have to give another paper on their Research topic where they will be required to explain their topic within 15 pages.

AILET 2020 Syllabus:

The syllabus for AILET 2020 for candidates appearing for BA LLB candidates involves questions from five different sections. Questions of legal propositions and related set of facts will test the legal aptitude of the candidate. Basic Mathematics questions on algebra, speed and distance, permutations 7 combinations, etc. testing their aptitude with numbers. There will also be questions on current affairs and general awareness, testing the candidate’s general knowledge. Reasoning questions like logical sequence, coding, decoding, etc will test the logical aptitude of the candidate. English language abilities will be tested by questions on vocabulary, grammar, etc.
 
LLM candidates will be asked questions on Law of Torts, Constitutional Law, Legal Theory, Criminal law and Law of Contracts.

AILET 2020 Admit Cards:

The admit cards for AILET 2020 will be provided to the applicants from 14th April, 2020 onwards. All applicants can download their admit cards from the official website of NLU by entering the required information. The admit card will consist of details on exam date, exam time and venue along with the candidate’s name, roll number, etc.
 
All candidates are advised to carry their admit cards to the examination venue on the day of the examination. Candidates without an admit card will not be allowed to enter the examination venue or appear for the exam.

AILET 2020 Result:

The result for AILET 2020 exam will be announced in the third week of May, 2020.  All candidates who appeared for the examination will be able to view their results on the official website of NLU Delhi by entering the desired information like roll number, etc. A merit list will be prepared by the university on the basis of the marks obtained by the applicants.
 
The question booklet and the answer key will also be uploaded on the website for student’s reference. Applicants can also request a copy of their OMR answer sheet by paying a certain amount to the Registrar of NLU.

AILET 2020 Counselling:

Once the result has been declared, the counselling procedure for AILET 2020 will commence. The counselling and admission process will be held in the month of June 2020 and will be conducted at the Delhi campus of National Law University. Applicants will be required to be present for the counselling as per the schedule and convey their choice of college and course.
