Hi Anitha,

Nowadays, jobs in film and television have become a widely popular career option among youngsters, because they fetch money, name, and fame. Talking of career options in this field, there are ample job opportunities in the entertainment industry. Opportunities are there for talented professionals in the areas of acting, production, direction, editing, cinematography, choreography, photography etc. and there are a number of institutes in India, which offer courses in the field of film and television. While most of them offer technical courses at graduation level, courses for other streams are conducted at the postgraduate degree level. If your brother is good looking and is keen on acting for films, he must complete his basic education upto Class XII and then get training at an acting or drama school.

FTII, The Film and Television Institute of India offers a two year PG diploma course in acting, as well as certificate courses in  feature film screenplay writing, film direction, video editing and audio and television engineering.

The National School of Drama, New Delhi offers a three-year intensive course in dramatics, which has been the route to film acting for many well-known film stars. Both courses require a minimum eligibility requirement of graduation.

There are also several private film acting schools that have come up in the last ten years. Run mainly by ‘retired’ film actors and actresses, these schools train aspirants for acting in Indian films as well as on voice training, make-up, dress, diet, improvisations and dancing. Prominent among these is

1. Asha Chandra’s Film Acting Institute, Mumbai
2. Padmini Kolhapure Acting School, New Delhi
3. Anupam Kher's Acting School, Mumbai
4. Asian Academy of Film and Television, Noida

Whistling Woods International at Film City in Mumbai offers diploma courses in production, direction and acting designed to prepare students for film, television, or theatre work. However, before your  brother jumps into preparing for a career in the movies, it is important to know that while good looks may open some doors, this is a field where intrinsic acting talent and hard work is essential.

He may have to struggle for quite some time and prove his worth before getting a good break. Only the very talented ones prosper and earn money and fame, so it is vital that he completes his study, and then assesses his chances for success.

Good luck!!!
