What is M. Ed?

Master of Education programme or popularly known as M. Ed course is a 2-year postgraduate course designed for candidates fascinated by a career in teaching and education promotion. The programme demands aspirants to have completed the 2-year undergraduate course of B. Ed. Based on the stream chosen by the candidate during the B. Ed., M. Ed programme allows candidates to further explore the same stream, primarily from the perspective of teaching.

Just like the B. Ed course, the NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education) administers Master of Education programme in India. Several universities across the country provide Master of Education programme in different specialisations.

M.Ed Eligibility Criteria

Master of Education aspirants are required to have completed an undergraduate degree in education, i.e. B. Ed. The specialisations that a candidate is free to choose during the M. Ed course depend on the stream picked by the candidate during the B. Ed programme. The full eligibility criteria for Master of Education programme is summed up as follows:

A Bachelor’s degree in Education from a recognised University or college with at least 55% (50% for non-General candidates) marks in aggregate. Candidates with an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.) can also apply for the Master of Education programme.
