Admission Procedure & Exams

B. Tech in Energy Engineering Eligibility Criteria

The basic eligibility criteria to seek admission in the B. Tech in Energy Engineering programme include the following:

  • The candidate must have passed class 12th or an equivalent examination from a recognised board.
  • The candidate must be from science stream and must have studied the subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) in class 12th on a mandatory basis. A few institutions may also allow Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB) combination as mandatory subjects.
  • The candidate should have scored at least 55% marks in aggregate of PCM/PCB subjects in class 12th. However, the minimum percentage may vary in each institution or university and for each candidate category.
  • The candidate must appear for the entrance exam whose scores are acceptable to the institution where he/she has applied. Almost all institutions admit students in the B. Tech in Energy Engineering course based on the merit of a particular entrance exam. While many of the institutes accept the scores or ranks of the JEE Main/Advanced or Joint Entrance Examination, a few may accept the scores from a state-level examination. Thus, it is critical for the candidate to know which exam he/she needs to take.

Specializations

B. Tech in Energy Engineering Specialization

B. Tech in Energy Engineering course is a specialised programme in itself. There are no other specialisations offered under this course. However, students can gain in-depth knowledge of the energy production and management domain by pursuing this course. They learn about various aspects of energy engineering, such as thermodynamics, power electronics, energy resources and technologies, and power systems and heat transfer.

The course further imparts the knowledge of digital and analogues electronic circuits and non-conventional ways of electric power generation. It offers training in the areas of energy conversion and computer-based energy conservation. Students additionally gain the knowledge of electric machines, basics of electronics, engineering drawing and graphics, electrical technology, programming and data structure, etc.
