National Institute of Technology (NITT), Tiruchirappalli is one of the 17 National Institutes of Technology established by the Government of India. Presently, NITT is an autonomous co-educational technological institute, with 10 undergraduate and 22 graduate programs. Undergraduate programs lead to the B.Tech degrees, while the graduate students and postgraduate students earn M.Tech and Ph. D degrees respectively. NITT also has a management and architecture school.  National Institute of Technology formerly known as Regional Engineering College, Tiruchirappalli was established as a joint and co-operative venture of the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu during 1964 with a view to catering to the needs of man-power in technology for the Country.  The college has subsequently been conferred with autonomy in financial and administrative matters to achieve rapid development. Due to this rich experience, the institute was granted Deemed University Status with the approval of the UGC, the AICTE and the Govt. of India in 2003 and was renamed as National Institute of Technology.

Laboratory

  • Campus Communication Services (CCS) is a service unit of the E.C.E. department that takes care of the communication needs of the campus residents. Telephone facilities have been provided in the academic departments, administrative office, hostels and in the residences. An ALCATEL 4300/S EPABX has been installed in the administrative building.   • The college has a modern central library with more than one lakh documents consisting of technical books, reports, standards and back volumes of journals. The library subscribes to 179 periodicals (print) plus 1000+ (e-Journals) besides a holding of 15943 bound volumes of journals (back numbers). The library also contains 15,000 books in the book bank. Hostel

  • There are seventeen boys' and three girls' hostels. Together they accommodate 3800 undergraduate and postgraduate students. Four more hostels are under construction. Once completed they will be able to accommodate 4660 students.

ExtraCurricular

  • The various hobby groups provides an opportunity for the students to exercise not only their grey cells but each and every talent hidden in them. Some of the Hobby groups Include RMI, Vox Lumos, Cinema Paradiso, PSI Club. The College calendar is interspersed with numerous events whether technical or cultural, at inter departmental level or inter college level. In NITT students are engaged in a variety of extracurricular activities that form a part of the annual lifestyle of a NITTian.

Placement

  • The training and placement department of the university arranges for companies to conduct on-campus interviews to recruit students. Over 220 companies participate in the placement process every year. The average compensation during the current year is over Rs.6 lakhs with the highest being $125,000 per annum (one of the three selected from all over India is from NITT; the other two being from IITs). The institute enjoys best placements when it comes to PG programmes.
