Lady Brabourne College, with its lush green lawns and gardens opposite the Park Circus Maidan is one of the premier Institutions for women's education in India. Established by the Government of Bengal in July 1939 and named after the wife of Lord Brabourne, the Governor of Bengal till February 1939, the college made a humble beginning with 35 Muslim students and 9 faculty members in a rented house in Park Circus. The foundation stone of the building in which it is presently housed was laid on 26th August 1939 by Sir J. Woodhead the then Governor of Bengal. Ever since the college has expanded structurally and academically earning the reputation of having an excellent academic environment and has celebrated it’s Diamond Jubilee on the 26th August, 1999.

Classroom

  • All classrooms well furnished.

Laboratory

  • The college has been running a computer certificate course in collaboration with Webel Informatics Ltd. (A Govt. of West Bengal undertaking) for the benefit of the students since 1996. The course has been subjected to regular review to suit the requirements of the students. Since the last academic session separate syllabi for the humanities, the bio-science and the pure science disciplines have been framed, each to be taught over a period of three years.

Library

  • The college library with a collection of approximately 100,000 books besides magazines and journals, located on the first floor of the main building, is equipped with reading room facility for students and teachers. Students are issued two borrower’s cards each at the time of admission. Library rules are clearly stated in the college prospectus. Old students of the college doing postgraduate courses elsewhere are allowed to use the library only for reference purposes with special permission from

Hostel

Placement

The Career Counselling and Job Placement Committee of the College has been organizing various programmes for career development and job placements since 2002. In the session 2006—07 major IT/BPO organizations like Infosys, TCS, IBM, Cognizant (CTS), Tech Mahendra, Accenture and WIPRO conducted campus recruitment programmes for final year undergraduate students. 75 (seventy five) interested and eligible students from all streams have been selected for placements last year (2007) by these high profile companies. Infosys also initiated their Campus Ambassador programme both in 2006 and 2007 from among interested students. This year 3G, Satyam, TCS and IBM Daksh also recruited some students.
