Department of Sociology is a part of Panjab University. It has the distinction of being one of the leading centers of teaching and research in the northwest region. The department also earned the honor of being the 'first' department from among the Social Science departments of Panjab University, Chandigarh to be selected by the UGC.   • All the classrooms of the department are well furnished with all modern facilities.

Laboratory

  • The Department has 17 Computers, 6 Printers, Fax Machine, Photocopier, LCD, Overhead Projector, Laptop etc. to facilitate research and active participation in Seminars/Conferences etc. by the faculty, research scholars and students. All faculty members have been provided with personal computers along with the Internet facility to enhance their work out put. M.A., M. Phil. and Ph.D. students working on their research assignments and dissertations/theses respectively also have access to computers

  • Department Library is an extension of the central library of the University. The Library has a rich collection of literature, both books and journals. At present it has a stock of approximately 4000 books, M.A., M.Phil. and Ph.D theses, reprints and reports. In addition to these, the Department subscribes to 16 current national and international journals, which comprise of research journals and abstracting journals in areas such as Sociological Theory, Emerging Methods of Social Research, apart
