The Department of Physical Oceanography offering M.Sc. Degree in Oceanography was established in 1996 initiating teaching and research in newer fields of national relevance. The Department has been a forerunner in oceanographic studies for the past three decades.  The Department has been able to obtain major projects from national bodies such as DST, MHRD, AICTE, MEF and UGC. Currently, the faculty is engaged in the ARMEX project supported by DST. Sophisticated instrumental facilities available include Ocean Current Meters, Automatic Sedimentation Analyzer, (Acoustic Current Meters) Bathythermograph and Tide Tele metering Recorder, Ship Borne Wave data Logger etc.
