Department of Linguistics, School of Languages is affiliated to Assam University with the aim of developing a better understanding of language study and linguistics. With the diverse linguistic scenario in North East India providing its backdrop, the thrust of the department's endeavour has been on analysing the languages of North East India with special reference to the language of South Assam. Keeping this in view, the department developed its course curriculum in a way so as to enable students at the post graduate level acquire capabilities to take up independent researches in future on various languages and their recent developments.
