The Department of Linguistics was established under UGC 6th plan grants. This is the only department in the state of Orissa to offer two years M.A. and PhD program in Linguistics. The department introduced   one year Post Graduate Diploma course in Russian Language (DRL). The department keeps updating the syllabus to suit the needs of the students and modernize the course. The department has introduced two compulsory papers in Communicative English in M.A Linguistics course to make the course more jobs oriented.
