As a retail manager, you will be responsible for the supervision of retail outlets, which include sales, staff, stock and resources management.  Though the education requirements vary from one company to the next, one retail organisation might require more education than another.

A Retail Manager's work typically involves:

How do I get there?

A Bachelor's degree is considered a must, preferably in business, accounting, marketing or management as they apply to the retail environment. Store managers who wish to propel themselves past the store level and into the corporate sector can pursue a Master's degree in  the same fields as mentioned above.
 
You can either gain on the job experience or you can opt in for an MBA and gain the technical know-how required to understand merchandising. In addition, you can enrol yourself into a management trainee program that is going to equip you with the basics required to operate in a  retail environment.
 

Typical day in the life of a Retail Manager

The day typically begins before the store opens, wherein the Retail Manager plans the day and targets for self and team. This is followed by a briefing process to the employees about the predetermined tasks. As the day progresses, the Retail Manager has to prepare material for promotion. And throughout the day, he/ she has to be involved with review of  customer comments, feedback, analys salese, promotions and profit.
