As per the estimate made by Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) and Boston Consulting Group (BCG), 20 lakh Digital jobs will emerge in India by 2018. Digital Marketing spends are forecasted to grow by more than 25% in 2017. 87% of brands in India leverage the 'Digital Medium'.

However, marketers are still to leverage the full potential of a digital world due to a dearth of updated digital marketing skill sets. The dynamic changing digital environment from the likes of digital platforms like Facebook, Google, Snapchat etc. also requires constant re-skilling. There is now a sharp need for existing and aspiring marketers to acquire latest relevant skills in this domain. Today, the starting salary for trained fresh graduates in this domain has reached nearly Rs. 5.5 Lakhs per annum- at least 30% more than engineers!

Digital Marketing is a vast territory from SEO to SMO, Content to Branding, ORM to Web Designing, App Development to Email Marketing hence a digital marketing manager has a huge load of responsibility on his/her shoulder and is responsible to actively handle all these areas mentioned above and manage them in such a way that it yields positive results for the business.

As a digital marketing manager, it is essential to keep a tap on all the components and mend them together to frame the right strategies for the clients. The DM Manager, plans, executes and monitors everything that goes on air or is shot online.

  • Strategic skills: Analytical thought process & understanding of marketing principles,
  • Tactical skills: Affinity towards social media, good with numbers, constant learner & creative thought process

Typical day in the life of a Digital Marketing Manager

No two days are the same in the life of a Digital Marketing Manager. While one day (s)he may be involved  in developing, planning, and executing the digital strategy for the business, while on another day, (s)he manage both the digital marketing and ecommerce operations of the business including managing all channels including SEO, SEM, social media marketing, email marketing, display advertising and display retargeting. 
 
At other times, (s)he can be neck deep involved analysing web analytics data and interpreting reports for the rest of the business or discuss optimisation strategies to make sure the conversion rate is always being tested and is progressively growing.  
 
(S)he may also spend their office day building a testing culture throughout the whole business. Some amount of research work is also involved and a Digital Marketing Manager may also find herself/ himself education and updating the rest of the company about new trends in the digital sphere.
