What do they do?

A Computer Systems Analyst identifies the IT needs of a company, and design computer systems to meet those needs. You may have to develop a new system, or configure an existing system to improve productivity.

After determining a system design strategy, you will implement the needed hardware and software, after which you will perform quality assurance tests to resolve any design flaws, and make sure everything is working as needed.

Other responsibilities includes creating computer networks to maximise information sharing, recommending improvements for systems and training the people on how to use it all.

Computer Systems Analysts often work for computer design firms, but many also work directly for companies, or are self employed consultants.

Some examples of computer design firms are Andor Co Ltd, ROLTA India Ltd, KGL Systel Ltd and Zigma Software Ltd.

How do I get there?

At a school level, you must take Mathematics and Physics in class 11.

Most jobs require a Bachelor’s in IT, although higher level jobs may require you to have a Masters in Computer Science.

Some employers even prefer someone who has done an MBA specialising in this field, as it integrates business and technology.
