Nidhi Mishra updated on : 08 Jan, 2020 46

Master of Technology, popularly known as M. Tech is a post graduate programme in engineering and technology field. Most of the students who pursue Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) are not satisfied with the level of knowledge they have gained and further look up to applying for a Master’s degree (M. Tech or M.E.).

M. Tech is  a 2-year specialisation programme in a specific branch of engineering or technical field and consists of 4 or more semesters. There are a number of specialisations offered to B. Tech students who wish to pursue M. Tech, like Civil Engineering, Computer Science Engineering (CSE), Chemical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE) etc.

M. Tech Admission in India can be broadly categorised into  M. Tech Admission with Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) and M. Tech Admission without GATE. The scores obtained in the exam are used as a major criteria for admission to the M. Tech colleges/courses in India.

However, there are a number of central and deemed universities that admit candidates without considering the GATE score.  Such universities conduct their own exam along with group discussions and interviews.

M. Tech Admission Eligibility Criteria:

  • Candidates who have completed their Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) or Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) are eligible for admission in Master of Technology (M. Tech).
  • Admission is based on the rank obtained in the entrance test conducted for M. Tech.
