What is Fashion Designing?
Fashion designing is a specialised branch of education that focuses on providing in-depth knowledge of design, natural beauty and aesthetics, which fashion conscious individuals may utilize further to ideate and design clothing and accessories. Furthermore, with the addition of several social, demographical and cultural connotations, fashion designing has become a highly advanced field of specialisation.
At UG Level:
There is no dearth of fashion designing courses for aspirants who want to start early They can take their pick from B.Sc in Fashion Design, B.A. (Honours) in Fashion Design and Diploma in Fashion Design.
Eligibility Criteria
Any 10+2 certificate holder, not more than 23 years of age and who has at least 50%marks in aggregate is eligible for UG fashion designing courses.
Admission Process
The admission process varies from institution to institution. While some colleges and universities consider the scores of students in Common Entrance Tests as the only prerequisite, other fashion designing institutes conduct their own written tests, group discussions and interviews.
Examination
1. NIFT Entrance Exam – Conducted by National Institute of Fashion Technology, the NIFT Entrance Exam test invites applications from aspirants who intend to pursue B. Des and B. F. Tech. Apart from these bachelor degree courses, the scores in this exam are accepted for admission into PG level courses as well. Further sub-divided into Creative Ability Test, General Ability Test and Situation Test, this particular test delves deeper into the knowledge level and aptitude of aspirants.
2. AIEED (All India Entrance Examination for Design) – Conducted by ARCH Academy of Design, the AIEED test focuses on testing the creativity, design and aesthetic sense of aspirants. Interested candidates can apply for any of their preferred test modes – Offline and Online. This particular test has two rounds: Creative Ability Test and General Ability Test.
College Specific Exam Tests
1. Design Aptitude Test (DAT) – GD Goenka School of Fashion & Design conducts Design Aptitude Test (DAT) every year. Following NIFT and NID test pattern, this particular exam tests both intellectual and practical skills of aspirants.
2. Pearl Academy of Fashion Entrance Exam – Pearl Academy of Fashion conducts PAF test for admission to its 4-year degree courses in Fashion Design, Fashion Retail & Merchandising, Fashion Merchandising & Production, Jewellery Design, Textile Design and Communication Design.
Almost all of these entrance tests have Group Discussion and Personal Interview as the next challenges for fashion designer course aspirants.
