Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya has become first university in Madhya Pradesh to introduce Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) on the suggestion of Human Resources Development Ministry and guidelines and directives of University Grants Commission (UGC). Higher and Technical Education Minister Umashankar Gupta launched it today. Union Minister of State for HRD Prof Ramshankar Katheria has congratulated the university for adopting CBCS.

Gupta said that information about CBCS should be widely spread. He expressed concern over less attendance of students in classes. Gupta said that a student will attend class only when he gets to learn something extra. He said that the suggestions coming to fore after discussions should also be included in the system. The Min said that along with English, name plates should also be installed in Hindi. Varsity Vice Chancellor Prof Piyush Trivedi informed that through CBCS, students will be free to choose courses as per their talent and academic capacities.

CBCS maintains coordination of courses with liberalisation and globalisation. It provides mobility to students to continue their studies in any of the institutions throughout the world by transferring their credits. Not only providing choice of courses to students, CBCS also gives autonomy to institutions in selection of courses.

They would be free to continue old pattern also. Students of all categories will benefit from this system ensuring open learning atmosphere on the choice of students. The system will be semester-based but students will need only total 180 credits instead of 252 credits to obtain degree. These 180 credits will be divided into several parts due to which students will have opportunity to study various subjects.
