Azadi Ke Hero: Event at JIMS to reviving patriotism in today’s youth

An inter class activity was conducted in the premises of Jagannath Institute of Management Sciences , Rohini, sector 3 campus named “Azadi ke hero” on September 14, 2014.

Patriotism is a selfless love one feels for his country. A country like India gave birth to many great heroes who have laid down their lives for their country. However these days it is observed that the youth is forgetting the sacrifices that these heroes made. Today’s generation shows patriotism only during cricket matches. Some would not know the names of even the most famous freedom fighters. It is important that in schools and colleges they are made to realize that the freedom they are enjoying today has come at the cost of the lives of our freedom fighters.  It needs to be told to them how great their country is.

The youth of today is not really aware of the ideologies that are implications to the patriotic thinking of national interests and the spirit of nationalism. The Indian youth today is as patriotic as the older generation was. It wants the country to be on the top in every field. It has exposure to the global affairs and different cultures around. However, this modern youth is not very well connected with its past.

The patriotic club in JIMS works in this direction and ensures that the youth remembers those who fought for the nation and brought independence.

Events include:

  • Role plays depicting a scene or two from the lives of the freedom fighters
  • Showcased a few excerpts from the lives of these great people like Chandrasekhar Azad, Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rani Laxmi Bai and Mahatma Gandhi

Scenes of the day:

There are scenes from the role plays fair enough to take anyone’s heart or you can say what a nerve wracking performance like

  • The scene where Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev smile and hug one another before getting hanged left everyone in tears.
  • Another popular scene in role plays was from the life of Chandrashekhar Azad where he shot himself to avoid being taken into custody or killed by the British
