The much awaited annual event Avartan began with a grand opening ceremony at National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) on 24th October 2015 .

The Ceremony witnessed the presence of (Prof.) Dr .Karuna Jain, Director NITIE, Prof. Ashok K Pundir, Dean (student affairs and placement), along with the special guest of the event Former Indian Bowler Mr. Madan Lal.

The word itself means a cycle of Indian music. True to its harmonious epistemology, Avartan, the annual business fest of NITIE, juxtaposes sports, case studies, celeb talks, fashion shows and rock concerts. It is a perfect blend of the serious with the spirited. Avartan 2015 did not disappoint. A plethora of events organised by the students themselves and artistes left the audiences enriched , appreciative and yearning for more. The prefatory sports extravaganza, 'JOSH', drew participation from business schools all over Mumbai, with Mr. Madan Lal, former Indian cricketer, kicking off proceedings. NITIE topped the charts, after beating off stiff competition from other institutes. UBI, Central Bank and PNB were major sponsors of the event. Then came series of activities performed by the enterprising students of the institute such as Surkshetra, an event designed for and by crooners and Nukkad Natak, a platform for the budding playwrights. Power Talks, saw the gracious presence of Dr Pawan Agrawal, CEO of Mumbai dabbawalas, who left the audience spellbound with his energy, humility and wisdom. Mr. G. M. Rao, CEO of GMR group was awarded with NITIE’s precious 'Lakshya Business Visionary Award'. Also, Dr. R. Chidambaram, Scientific advisor of Government of India was awarded with 'Lakshya Distinguished Leader’s Award'. These tall leaders exemplified the payoffs of hard work, risk taking, and most importantly, never giving up. Their valuable insights were lapped up by an eager audience. The fashionistas walked the ramp in “Rendezvous”. The event saw the presence of Bollywood star Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

In keeping with fostering the spirit of entrepreneurship, NITIE organised the Empresario Entrepreneurship Conclave, where Mahendra Agarwal, CEO and founder of GATI was felicitated. Leading lights of the exciting world of entrepreneurship such as Aseem Khare (Taskbob), Faisal Farooqui (Mouthshut), and Natasha Tuli (SOulflower) shared their stories. Numerous events catering to the fields of strategy, SCM and finance were organised. A highlight of the fest was the OJAC (the on Job Achievers Contest) for Operations, SCM, IT syatems and HR. NITIE was privileged to have Manufacturing Conclave first time this year. They highlighted the shop floor manager’s requirement in industries and called them as Future need of India. The chief guest were Dr. Chandan Chowdhary, MD Dassault systems, Dr. S. Devrajan, senior VP production engineering, TVS ,Mr. R. Dayal from Maruti Suzuki and Umesh Shah from Gabriel India. Participants from big corporate houses vied with each other to strut their projects which had brought significant savings to their organisations as an expert panel comprising some of the leading lights of Indian business deliberated over their exhibitions. The Prerna Business Meet brought together luminaries such as Mr. Mainak Dhar ( MD, General Mills), Mr G. Natarajan, CEO Zensar Technologies, and Dr A. Paithankar, VP & MD of Emerson Process India.
