Question Pattern

Subjective and Objective

First of all, let us have a look at some main points of XAT 2020 Exam Pattern

  • Marking Method: Every question in XAT 2020 carries one mark. There is negative marking of 0.25 marks if you give wrong answer of the question. There will be 12 questions which are allowed to the students to be left out. However, there will be negative marking of 0.05% marks.
  • Sections in Exam: The paper one is divided into three sections, namely Decision Making, Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation, Verbal and Logical Ability. In the last year’s XAT exam, Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation section was given higher weightage. In the paper two, there are two sections, one is optional and other one is subjective type. General knowledge section is objective type which contains 25 MCQs whereas Essay Writing is subjective section and students are given one topic only.
  • Duration of XAT: The total time limit of XAT 2020 is 3.5 hours. As the exam is divided into two categories, paper one will have 170 minutes of the total time. There will be a five minutes break after this. Paper two will start after this. The total time given to paper two is 35 minutes. As per the XLRI guidelines, students should spend 15 minutes on General Knowledge part while only 20 minutes on the essay writing section.
  • Mode of Answering: There will be an OMR Sheet for answering the questions. XAT is a pencil and paper based exam. The students are required to fill the circle entirely for the correct answer’s option. Students can use either black or blue ball point pen. If there is any rough work which is to be done, that can be done in OMR sheet’s margins. The students have to write essay in the space given in OMR sheet using the black or blue ball point pen.
  • Total Number of Questions: It is expected that this year, there may be some variation in the total number of questions as per the XLRI authorities. If we look at XAT 2020, there were 72 questions in the paper one section in which quantitative ability and date interpretation section was given maximum weightage. In case of paper two, there hasn’t been any change. It is always constant with Genera Knowledge portion having 25 questions and one topic for essay writing.

If we talk about the XAT exam syllabus, there is nothing in particular which XLRI Jamshedpur has released. The best way to know and understand XAT exam syllabus is by going through the previous years exam papers and XAT sample papers. As these papers will provide enough insight to the students regarding XAT exam preparation.  Near about 90,000 students are expected to take XAT for admission in management courses. More than 150 Indian B – Schools will accept XAT score for management course admission.
