List of IIITs in India - Indian Institutes of Information Technology or IIITs in India are educational institutions of repute, which are established and funded by the Government of India. The Ministry of Human Resource Development recognises and manages these institutes. IIITs are established to provide education in the technical and management fields. These colleges offer all such courses that are available in the computer science department of Indian Institute of Technology.

Courses Offered by IIITs:

Indian Institutes of Information Technology offer courses at all academic levels, including undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD level. Most IIITs in India provide IT courses in computer science, library science, bioinformatics, information security, and robotics engineering. These institutes also offer courses in mechanical engineering and electronics and communication engineering. Most of the students interested in pursuing IT or CS engineering courses take IIITs as their first institutional choice.

Indian Institutes of Information Technology Present in India:

Initially, four IIITs in India were established as the institutes of national importance. These institutes were set up to impart higher education in India in the field of information technology. Later, considering the value and significance of these institutes, a budget proposal was made by the government in 2011, aiming at establishing 20 new IIITs for each of the states in the country. These new IIITs were later set up under the PPP model, which refers to the public-private partnership model.

Check out here the list of all IIITs or Indian Institutes of Information Technology that are present in the country as of now. Please note that none of these institutes is listed in any order of importance.

While the IIITs in India, listed under MHRD, are funded by the central government, the ones listed under the PPP model receive their funding from state and central government as well as private industry partners. Apart from these IIITs, there are other IIITs that are called International Institute of Information Technology or IIIT Delhi, which is called Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology. However, if you come across any other IIITs that are not listed here, then you must check that institute’s credibility. Some fully private institutes, running under the IIIT tag or abbreviated name, are not actual IIITs. Thus, do not be misled by such institutes.

IIIT Admission Criteria – Acceptance of JEE Mains Scores:

IIITs have become a brand name that can be compared to the education you may receive in an IIT institution. There are many of the listed IIITs in India that accept the IIT’s entrance exam called JEE while selecting students for admission in their undergraduate courses. Most of the listed IIITs accept the JEE Main All India Ranks as the selection criterion. These scores are considered along with the scores of students in class 12 examination.

The JEE and 12th class exam scores are considered in the ratio 60:40 when students seek admission in various BE or B-Tech courses in one of the IIITs in India. While a few IIITs like the ones in Bhopal, Tripura, Surat, and Kakinada are new/future IIITs, most of the other IIITs participate in the joint seat allocation procedure. JoSSA or Joint Seat Allocation Authority holds this process for allocating seats in IIITs based on JEE Mains scores of students.

In fact, International Institute of Information Technology and Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology also consider JEE Mains scores for admission in their undergraduate engineering programmes.

Why IIITs are the Best of Institutions?

While not all IIITs in India can compete with IITs, there are some that are ranked higher based on several factors. The ones that can give you top-quality education include IIITs in Hyderabad, Allahabad, Bangalore, Gwalior, and Delhi. Some others that hold good ranks include IIITs in Kerala, Kancheepuram, Jabalpur, Bhubaneswar, and Guwahati. Still, the rest of the IIITs do not lag far behind. Most of these have been established as brand names for a long time now. These institutes come with great infrastructure and facilities as well as accreditation level. Thus, students find them credible.

Further, IIITs have very good faculty and faculty strength that raises the quality of their technical and management education. The faculty at such institutions involves students in ample research work while giving them the right environment to progress on it and get innovative. Students also receive good opportunities to get involved in workshops, seminars, and conferences that are organised by IIITs. Apart from this, a beneficial factor that favours IIITs is that students hardly face a location problem. They can seek admission in the best of IIITs in India, and that too, at a better location that creates effective opportunities for them while studying or after completing their study.

While students receive high-quality campus life and educational opportunities at IIITs, these institutes also support their placements in a wonderful way. Most of the high-ranked IIITs in India are able to fetch the best of on-site job offers from top companies for their students. IIITs like those in Hyderabad, Bangalore, and Allahabad facilitate student placements in the highest paying jobs in esteemed organisations. These institutes have maximum industry collaboration that increases the research and placement opportunities for their students. They can get practical exposure to its best in these institutes that carry some other top institutes as their mentor institutes.

IIITs are growing faster than ever before in India while offering a challenging learning environment to students. This enhances the overall development of students in personal and educational terms.
