Preparation tips for each section of the NCHMCT-JEE 2015:

• The “Numerical Ability and Scientific Aptitude” section of the NCHMCT-JEE 2015  has 30 questions and tests your basic maths and science knowledge. Going through the NCERT mathematics and science books (9th to 10th standard) would suffice as preparation for this section. One can expect questions based on the number system, percentages, profits and loss, averages, time-work, simple interest, compound interest, time- speed- distance and geometry in maths and numerical questions like calculating the number of moles present in 180g of water as well as theoretical questions in science.

Sample questions:

Q.1. The sum of all even two digit numbers is divided by one of them leaving no remainder. It is known that the sum of the digits of the divisor is 9, and that the digits in the quotient and divisor are the reverse of each other. The divisor is:
(i) 18 (ii) 36 (iii) 54 (iv) 72
Q.2. Viruses are composed of :
(i) proteins only (ii) nucleic acids only (iii) proteins & nucleic acids (iv) lipoprotein

• The “Reasoning and Logical Deduction” section of NCHMCT-JEE 2015, as the name suggests, has 30 questions that would test your deduction skills and reasoning power through questions on codes, blood relations, mathematical operations and reasoning, counting of figures, completion of figures and series, data sufficiency & data interpretation , venn diagrams and so on.

Mr.Falguni Goswami, Product Head of Career Launcher advises that one should learn squares, cubes and percentage equivalent of fractions and develop various other techniques available for approximations, which can at times help you eliminate the options and get the correct answer much faster. According to Mr. Goswami, the analytical skills need to be consciously developed over a period of time through constant practice and by solving different types of questions. Try to learn the basics of logic and practise questions on syllogisms, logical consistency, statement assumptions and numerical series.

Sample question:

Q.Statements : Some chairs are tables. Some tables are drawers. All drawers are shelves
Conclusions : I. Some shelves are tables.
II. Some drawers are chairs.
III. Some shelves are drawers.
A.(1) Only I and III follow
(2) Only I and either II or III follow
(3) Only II and either I or III follow
(4) All I, II and III follow

• The “General Knowledge & Current Affairs” section of NCHMCT-JEE 2015 again has 30 questions which covers important topics like history, geography, important awards, sports, movies and topics of relevance in the present time (greenhouse effect, global warming etc). Keep abreast of all the current happenings (national & international) and events of significance (current and from at least one year before the exam date).

“Test yourself on sample GK quizzes and tests to identify commonly asked questions. Reading some standard books and magazines on GK would be helpful. Make sure you check the right answer at all times to avoid making mistakes in the actual paper” advises Mr. Goswami.

Sample questions:
Q.1. Nicole Faria is:
(i) Miss Earth 2010 (ii) Miss World 2010 (iii) Miss Universe 2010 (iv) None of these

Q.3. The largest freshwater lake in the world is:

• As is quite evident from the pattern of the question paper, the “English Language” section is a quite important component of NCHMCT-JEE 2012 with 60 questions out of the total 200 questions. You should focus on scoring the maximum in this section. This section tests your reading skills, vocabulary & grammar (tenses, rules of correct usage, rules of conjunction, preposition, spotting errors, improvement of sentences, one word substitutions, sentence completion, sequence of words, synonyms, antonyms, reading comprehension, spelling rules and idioms). Refer to books like “Wren & Martin’s” to work on your grammar, advises Mr. Goswami.

Brush up your language skills, read newspapers on a daily basis giving special attention to sentence formation and usage of new words. Try and increase your vocabulary with books like “Word Power Made Easy”. Increase your reading speed since there will be questions on reading comprehension.

Sample questions:

Q.1. In the question, choose the option which best expresses the meaning of the idiom given: “To carry off the bell”:
(1) To call others for help (2) To bag the first position
(3) To steal all wealth and flee (4) To trouble others
Q.2. In the question, choose the world which is most opposite in meaning of the underlined world in the sentence:
“This is only the most tenuous evidence for it.”
(1) abundant (2) enough (3) reasonable (4) less

• This examination is for a course that prepares you for a vital part of the hospitality sector. Interpersonal skills are something that one can’t do without in this industry. The “Aptitude for Service Sector” section of NCHMCT-JEE 2015 aims to test if you possess these skills. This is the only section that has no negative marking. The best way to crack this is to remain true to yourself and answer as per your personal judgment.

Mr. Goswami adds, “There are no wrong answers in this section, all answers are marked in a graded format, so even if you mark the least appropriate answer, you stand to score something. So attempt all the 50 questions of this section”.

Sample questions:

Q.1. In case you happen to witness a family quarrel in your immediate neighbourhood, you would :
(i) ignore and forget
(ii) inform other neighbours and try to intervene
(iii) shout and tell them not to make noise
(iv) inform police

(i) display your anger by shouting and give vent to your anger
