Psychology is the study of human mind, brain and behaviour. In other words, psychology is a science of understanding the dynamics of human behaviour. It diagnoses brain disorders and other syndromes related to mind by the process of counselling.

Since, it is the game of understanding human activities, it needs an analytical mind and strong communication skills to make a career in Psychology in India. The need for good psychologists is always on a high in schools, hospitals, social service agencies, mental health centres, substance abuse treatment clinics, consulting firms and private companies.

How to Get into the Psychology Profession?

You need to complete 10+2 with Psychology as one of the subjects to get the basic knowledge about the field of psychology at high school level.

Then, you need a Bachelor’s degree with a specialization in Psychology to gain the in-depth knowledge and awareness of the Psychology. In the degree program, you should pay special attention on subjects and functional areas such as personality development, psychotherapy, stress management and neuro-psychology.

Most psychologists opt for post-graduate degrees to compete with their opponents in this domain. So, having a master’s degree additionally will be fruitful for you to have a lucrative career in Psychology in India.

Skills Required to Become a Psychologist:

Analytical Mind: To become a psychologist, you must have an analytical mind as you need to face critical situations on a daily basis.

Patience: You need to have a strong tolerance power to handle the difficult circumstances you may land into.

Excellent Communication Skills: Since you need to counsel the patients based on their issues and problems, you must have brilliant communication as well as listening skills.

Quick Witted: You should have a quick witted character as you will need to deal with people suffering from brain related diseases.
