Arena Multimedia Concludes Latest Edition of Orbit Live 2020

The leading animation institution of India, Arena Animation recently concluded the latest edition of Orbit Live 2020— the largest and most popular international animation students festival.

This confluence of industry knowledge and creative showcase saw over 200 international industry stalwarts deliberating upon the latest trends in the industry in the presence of over 500 Arena Multimedia students from its centres across the country.

Specially conceived for the VFX, animation, design and graphics industry, Orbit Live offers amazing opportunities for students to meet and engage with the gurus of animation from around the world. Student delegates get a chance to network and learn from the best of talent from Hollywood and Bollywood, while working on live projects for top companies.

The keynote address was delivered by Nik Powell who was one of the co-founders of the Virgin Group with Richard Branson, and is today the director at Director at UK’s largest film institute - National Film & Television School, London.

During his address, he spoke about how the entertainment and animation industry are working in tandem to churn out finest creative works than ever before. He also spoke at length about the various trends which are impacting the industry such as IoT, rise of big data, virtual reality and 360 degree viewing experience.

This was followed by session addressed by writer, producer, and publicist at Wolfmill Entertainment Los Angeles, Craig Miller, who spoke about ‘The Origin, Evolution and Mysteries of Star Wars Saga’. The students also had the opportunity to attend a stellar seminar by Poland-base digital visual Patryk Kizny on time-lapse cinematography.

The creative genes of the students were in for a test when they had the opportunity to pick the brains of international animators such as Juan Solis - the renowned character development artist from Madrid, Spain who created animated characters in Spiderman and Frozen amongst many others.

This year, some of the eminent international guests who conducted master classes on animation, VFX & filmmaking at the event included Elizabeth Rega, Associate Vice Provost for Academic Development, Western University of Health Sciences Los Angeles (USA);  Paul Noble - Senior Lecturer in 3D Animation; Penny Holton - Animator and Deputy Section Head of Animation & Visual Effects University of Teesside (UK); Pete Draper - Co-Founder & CEO Makuta and Eric Egerup - Studio Art Director Dhruva Interactive, Bangalore; Xes Vita - Technical Director and Co-founder FX Animation (Barcelona); Damian Perea - Director, Producer & Festival Director (Spain); and Luca Raffaelli  - Direttore artisti code La Città In cantata (Festival Director) – Italy.

Mr. Anuj Kacker, Executive Director, Aptech Ltd said, “The animation and entertainment industry is currently experience a seminal year as the rise of smart phones, renewed thrust on digitisation of the country and improved connectivity are collectively providing a fillip to the industry. In addition to talent, right exposure to the global trends is equally impetrative. Orbit Live, has been serving as a melting pot of talent. Through such initiatives we want Arena students to experience and witness remarkable work from all across the globe.”

Orbit Live 2020 also saw several students being awarded for their projects which were adjudged by a panel of International and Indian animation industry experts.

Kalakari Festival brings alive creativity

Kalakari, the one day creative festival, which is concurrently held with Orbit Live, concluded as a perfect podium for expressing and highlighting the creative juices of the Arena Multimedia students. It serves as a platform to artists and creative minds to showcase their skills and learn from senior artists who have left a mark on the international art scene. The festival saw over 300 students partaking in various creative competitions and training sessions. To enhance the creative quotient of the event, some participants put up kiosks to display their hand-made artwork of all types, while other participants put up dance and music performances.

“Kalakari is unique ‘creative kumbh’ of the industry. It continues to enthrall students and help them attain new skills that help them shape and nurture their career. At Arena, we believe that to enhance the learning of the students and make their job ready, it is important to take them out of the classrooms and make them learn through observation, communication, and inspiration from other artists, and by the nature itself. At Kalakari, students get a chance to find the perfect platform to experience art and learn from experienced professionals,” Mr. Kacker, added.
