UPSC SCRA is a recruitment examination conducted on a national level to select student for recruitment of Special Class Railway Apprentices (SCRA) under Indian Railways. The examination is conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on behalf of the Indian Railways every year which witnesses a turnout of more than a few lakh students.
Apprentices selected through UPSC SCRA exam will be commissioned as Class I officers in the Indian Railways Service of Mechanical Engineering or ISRME, after the completion of four years long apprenticeship.
UPSC SCRA for the year 2020 is scheduled to be held in the month of July 2020. The official notification and the online registrations will start in February 2020. The registration process is expected to conclude by March 2020.
The exam will be conducted in two stages – written test and personality test. The written test will consist of three papers of multiple type questions covering topics from General Knowledge, English Language to Mathematics, Psychological test, Physics and Chemistry.
UPSC SCRA 2020 Important Dates
As per the official web portal of UPSC, the upcoming UPSC SCRA exam will be conducted in the month of July 2020. Although, the exam dates and the admission process have not been released as yet, the official notification has been confirmed to be released in February 2020.

UPSC SCRA 2020 Eligibility Criteria
In order to be eligible to apply for UPSC SCRA exam, candidates should have completed 10+2 or equivalent from a Government of India recognized board or university with a minimum of second division. They should have studied Mathematics and either one of Physics or Chemistry subject or both. All candidates should be between 17 to 21 years of age as on August 1, 2020. However, age relaxation will be provided to candidates belonging to reserved categories.
UPSC SCRA 2020 Application Forms
The online registration for UPSC SCRA 2020 will commence in the month of February 2020. Aspiring candidate will be able to register themselves on the official website of UPSC by entering the desired details in the specified column. The registration process will be done in two stages and candidates will be able to proceed on to the second stage only after they finish with the first stage. The online registration will most likely conclude in March 2020.
UPSC SCRA 2020 Application Fee
In order to complete the registration process successfully, all aspiring candidates will have to pay an application fee of INR 100. The application fee amount can be paid online using debit cards and credit cards. They can also pay via net banking by visiting any branch of State Bank of India or other associated banks.
UPSC SCRA 2020 Exam Pattern
The UPSC SCRA exam will be conducted in two phases. The first stage will comprise of a written test consisting of three papers namely Physical Science, Mathematics and General Ability Test. Each paper will carry 200 marks and will have to be answered within two hours.
The second phase will consist of a personality test. Candidates who clear the written test will only be able to appear for the personality test. This stage will carry a total of 200 marks in total in contrast to 600 total marks in written test.
UPSC SCRA 2020 Syllabus
All candidates appearing for UPSC SCRA 2020 are advised to study the entire syllabus thoroughly to clear the exam. General Ability Test paper might contain questions on general knowledge, English language, vocabulary, basic history, etc. Physical Science section may contain questions on various topics of Physics & Chemistry subject including biochemistry, electromagnetic induction, polymers, current & electricity etc. Questions on Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus, Matrices & Determinants, Probability, etc will be asked under Mathematics section.
UPSC SCRA 2020 Admit Card
Applicants of UPSC SCRA 2020 can expect their admit cards to be available in the month of June 2020. Candidates will be able to download their admit cards from the official web portal of UPSC after entering their details. The admit cards will contain information on test venue, date and time along with candidate’s name & roll number. All candidates will be required to carry their admit cards to their respective centres to appear for the exam.
UPSC SCRA 2020 Results
Candidates, who will appear for UPSC SCRA 2020 exam in the month of July 2020, can expect their results to be declared in the August 2020. They will be able to check their results by entering their details in the specified column on the website of UPSC.
Students who clear this written exam will appear for the personality test. The combined marks obtained in both written exam and personality test will be considered to recruit apprentices.
