CMAT Exam Pattern 2020

Common Management Admission Test is organized by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) every year. CMAT score is accepted by all the colleges/institutes which are affiliated to AICTE. This is an online computer based exam which will be conducted for admission to MBA/PGDM 2020 – 2020 courses. CMAT is proposed to be held in January 2020 in third week. The total duration of CMAT exam will be 3 hours. And the exam will start from 9:30AM and will finish at 12:30PM. Earlier CMAT used to be held on multiple days but now it is going to be held only once. As per CMAT exam pattern 2020, the exam is divided into four sections. Each section contains 25 questions, all multiple choice questions. In this article, we will share CMAT exam pattern 2020 for you in detail.

CMAT Exam Pattern 2020

Candidates, who are planning to appear in CMAT 2020, should understand CMAT exam pattern 2020 completely so that they can start CMAT preparation 2020 accordingly. And candidates need to start preparation for CMAT as early as possible. There are four sections in this exam namely quantitative techniques, language comprehension, logical reasoning and general awareness. The table below represents CMAT exam structure 2020.

CMAT Exam Pattern 2020 Highlights

CMAT exam is of 180 minutes. This exam will have objective type questions. Each correct answer will be awarded 4 marks. And for every wrong answer, one mark will be deducted.

Topics covered in CMAT 2020 Exam Pattern

As mentioned above there will be four sections in this exam as per CMAT exam pattern 2020 as prescribed by AICTE. Let us have a look at the topics which are to be covered in CMAT exam 2020.

       1. Quantitative Technique and Data Interpretation:

  • Number System
  • Geometry
  • Profit and loss
  • Allegation and mixtures
  • Simple interest and compound interest
  • In – equations
  • Quadratic and linear equations

        2. Logical Reasoning:

  • Analogy test
  • Statements assumptions
  • Inferences
  • Causes and effects
  • Directions and distance tests
  • Nonverbal tests (Visual tests)
  • Analytical reasoning

        3.General Awareness:

  • Geography
  • History
  • Personalities in News
  • Literature
  • Culture
  • Current Affairs of Economic, International, National

       4. Language Comprehension:

  • English Grammar
  • Synonyms and Antonyms
  • Paragraph Completion
  • One Word Substitution

A computer system will be assigned to every candidate in CMAT 2020. Along with this, every student will be given a plain sheet and pen so that if any rough work is to be done, that can be done on that sheet. When the exam gets over, the sheet and pen are to be left at the desk only. It’s not allowed to take them out.

CMAT Exam Syllabus Pattern 2020

There isn’t any set particular syllabus approved by AICTE. The major four topics which are to be covered in CMAT 2020 are listed and described below:

Language Comprehension
The verbal ability section in CMAT is known as Language Comprehension. This section includes English test comprising several topics such as vocabulary, tenses, jumbled paragraphs, grammar and reading comprehensions. Following are some other topics which may be asked in the exam as per CMAT exam pattern 2020:
  • Non – finites
  • Articles
  • Pronouns
  • Nouns
  • Dangling modifiers
  • Articles
  • Verbs
  • Subject verb agreement
  • Prepositions
  • Adverbs
  • English usage errors
  • Sentence improvement
  • One word substitution
  • Paragraph completion
 
The passages given in CMAT exam are of almost 500 words and as per the exam pattern of CMAT; these passages aren’t that much difficult. There will be at least 4 to 5 questions in reading comprehension passages. There is no fixed set of rule for answering them. Questions can be of following types:
 
  • Questions based on phrases
  • Questions based on idioms
  • Question based on the central idea of passages
  • Question based on passage expression
  • Question based on inference drawn                
Quantitative Technique and Data Interpretation
 
This section has several topics included in it. You will find questions on pie chart and table in data interpretation. These topics need calculations. Quantitative section will have following topics in CMAT as per the exam pattern:

  • Number properties

Logical Reasoning         
 
Logical reasoning section is little tricky and includes topics such as arrangements, seating, sequencing, seating and arranging with conditions to coding. As per the syllabus and CMAT exam pattern, followings are the main topics which are to be asked in CMAT 2020.

General Awareness

We can divide this section in three parts. Due weightage is given to every part of this section. You can find conventional GK in the books. For current GK, you can always refer to regular newspaper readings and reading periodicals & editorials. And the third section is Economics and Business GK which includes topics like CRP, up valuation and Devaluation of Rupee, Fiscal policy, monetary policy, Repo Rate etc. There may be question where the candidates will be given photos or emblem for identification (such as organizations, companies or famous personalities). This section also contains the following topics as well:

Before registering for CMAT, the candidates should ensure that they have understood CMAT exam pattern 2020 completely. There will be a trail test made available for CMAT aspirants around third week in December 2020 which will give a real feel to the students regarding the navigation functionality and online computer based test. And the candidates should carefully understand it so that they can become familiar with the layout, screens, navigation, layout etc. The syllabus and exam pattern of CMAT 2020 descried here is indicative, not exhaustive.
